10/25/18: Gubernatorial Debate; Local Doctor Advances Trauma Treatment

Oct 25, 2018

Things got ugly fast at Wednesday night’s gubernatorial debate between Republican Ron DeSantis and Democrat Andrew Gillum.

Thursday on First Coast Connect we heard from A.G. Gancarski of Florida Politics as the governor’s race heads into its final days and Vice President Mike Pence visits Jacksonville Thursday to campaign for DeSantis.

We also heard from a local doctor who has co-authored a study that’s revolutionizing how surgeons learn their craft. And, it’s saving thousands of animals’ lives at the same time.

Advancing Trauma Treatment

Dr. Marie Crandall of UF Health Jacksonville hospital told us about the Journal of Surgical Education publishing the study on the global modernization of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) training courses.

The study describes a novel collaboration between the TraumaMan medical simulator manufacturer Simulab Corporation and PETA that is modernizing how surgeons in 22 countries learn to treat traumatic human injuries in ATLS courses—using advanced human simulation technology.
