Twenty-nineteen wrapped up the hottest decade ever recorded on earth and was the second-hottest year ever recorded.
The past five years have also been the hottest five on record for the second year running, according to Climate Central.
As WJCT News has previously reported, 2019 also marked the warmest year on record for Jacksonville.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said, like the Earth as a whole, Florida had its second-hottest year on record.
Despite the heat, much of the U.S. saw record rainfall last year, with five states' experiencing their wettest year on record.
