Student creativity and talent are being showcased this month in downtown Jacksonville as part of the Northeast Florida Scholastic Art Awards.
Senior portfolio work is displayed at the Cathedral Arts Project office, with individual art work at the Jacksonville Main Library, both on Laura Street.
Mandarin High School junior Dane LaRocque was at the show’s opening over the weekend to see his watercolor painting titled Azul Rose and said it felt great to see it displayed on a wall at the Jacksonville Main Library.
“It’s a blue rose. Really, it’s just a small art project I wanted to do in class that I thought I messed up at first, but then I just redid it and put more watercolor onto it, and it worked out perfectly fine," he said.
The Northeast Florida Scholastic Art Awards is a regional visual arts competition for middle and high-school students. "Gold Key" winners of the competition go on to national judging, and scholarships are available through the program.
The Northeast Florida works are exhibited through Feb. 25.
