A bill that would let voters decide on electing rather than appointing a superintendent for the Duval County Public Schools is generating controversy.
The Florida House Local Administration Subcommittee met in Tallahassee Wednesday, approving Rep. Jason Fischer’s proposed House Bill 1079. But there's opposition to the bill in Jacksonville. Mapping Our Past
An event at the Main Library this Saturday, Jan. 25, called Mapping Our Past, will explore the role of maps in our city’s past, present and future. To give us a closer look we invited Chris Boivin to join us. He's the Assistant Director of Community Relations and Marketing at the Jacksonville Public Library. Ted Sickley, Director of Cartographic Databases for National Geographic, also joined us in Studio 5.
Frank Thomas Festival
The Frank Thomas Festival is coming up this weekend in Keystone Heights. It’s named after singer/songwriter Frank Thomas, who was inducted a few years ago into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. Performer and spokesman Tom Shed was here to tell us more. This event is being paired with the established Heritage Festival taking place January 25 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park, located at 6239 State Road 21 in Keystone Heights. The cost is $5 per vehicle, up to 8 people.
