Body Pulled From Submerged SUV That Went Into Intracoastal Waterway

News4Jax
Rescuers pulled a man from inside a submerged SUV Wednesday, but he did not survive the crash.

A man was pulled from a vehicle that apparently went off the embankment of a small San Pablo Road bridge on private property Wednesday morning.

The vehicle ended up submerged under the bridge, which spans a narrow tributary of the Intracoastal Waterway, according to WJCT News partnerNews4Jax.

A person on the property who witnessed the crash called 911 just before 8 a.m., St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chuck Mulligan said.

Rescuers could be seen working to pull the man from the vehicle Wednesday morning, but he did not survive what Mulligan described as a “tragic traffic crash.”

Mulligan said the man has not yet been identified but appeared to be a younger male. The vehicle he was driving was registered locally, Mulligan said, but it’s unclear if he owned the vehicle.
