Ever wonder who’s holding signs that show up on nearly every corner as election day closes in? In many cases the answers are what one might expect. For example, the mother of Leon County School Board candidate Ricky Bell was at one precinct Tuesday, as well as the husband of school board candidate Alva Stripplin.
But in some cases, the answer might surprise you. Issac Mitchell is holding a sign for Leon County judicial candidate Monique Richardson. Her father heads Mitchell’s church.
“So we’re here to support her and also him. He’s very excited and we’re excited for him,” Mitchell says.
Mitchell says he made the drive from Tampa with a group of other supporters late Monday night with plans to return Tuesday evening. He says he had the day off anyway and it glad to help. But also says he thinks it’s important for people to get involved in politics.
“From County commissioners to senators to House reps, it’s definitely important at least to participate. I think that’s the most important thing,” Mitchell says.
Mitchell says he’s not sure whether waving signs makes a difference in the outcome of the election. But he says it’s worth a try.
