Car Slams Into Jacksonville's Original Metro Dinner On Hendricks Ave.

News4Jax
A Toyota Camry slammed into the side of the Metro Diner on Hendricks Ave. Monday evening.

A car on Monday evening crashed into the Metro Diner on Hendricks Avenue, which is the location of the chain's original restaurant that first opened in 1992.

Daniel Schellhorn, managing partner of the restaurant, told our News4Jaxpartner at about 7:45 p.m. a Toyota Camry struck the building after the driver had to swerve to avoid another car on Hendricks Avenue.

Schellhorn said the driver of the Camry was okay. The driver of the other car drove off.

"It's a little heartbreaking, but it's nothing that a little bit of hard work can't take care of," Schellhorn said.

No one was inside the restaurant at the time of the crash. The San Marco location closes its doors at 3 p.m.

Schellhorn wasn't sure when the restaurant would be able to reopen. He provided the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office with surveillance video of the crash.
