Clay County is making it easier for people to pay fines and court costs.

Court Clerk Tara Green said the county started letting people pay their traffic tickets online back in March.

Last month, the system was expanded to accept payments stemming from criminal cases as well.

“Before, you would have to wait until we were open.  Now, with this service that we offer, you can make that payment 24/7.

Green says online payments are credited in real time.

The hope is that the county will see more of the money it’s owed and that fewer people will lose their driver’s license or end up back in jail because they couldn’t get to the courthouse before it closes at 4:30 in the afternoon.
