Clay County’s Supervisor of Elections is encouraging people to vote by mail or vote early in person ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Supervisor of Elections Chris Chambless said he’s expecting an unprecedented turnout this year, making it unwise for voters to wait until Election Day.

“With nearly 165,000 voters in Clay County, in a 12 hour period with 43 precincts, I think that it would be incumbent for everybody to use all the flexibility that’s supported by law in casting their ballot,” he said.

Chambless said his office has already sent out nearly 50,000 vote-by-mail ballots, double the number requested in previous general elections. Of those, 12,000 or so have already been returned.

Clay County voters can request a mail-in ballot until Oct. 24. Vote-by-mail ballots must be received by the Elections Office by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Early, in person voting runs from Oct. 19-31 at the Clay County Supervisor of Elections Office in Green Cove Springs and at six other sites. All seven polling sites will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

To reduce the time spent in line voters are being encouraged to review and update their information before showing up to vote.

Chambless also strongly encourages voters to study and mark their sample ballots, which can be taken into the voting booth and used as a guide when marking the official ballot.
