Former President Bill Clinton will swing through Florida on Sunday, campaigning for Democratic congressional candidate Gwen Graham in Tallahassee, gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist in Tampa and U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy in Palm Beach Gardens.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is coming back to the state to appear on behalf of Gov. Rick Scott, this time making stops Sunday in South Florida.
Clinton will begin the day in Palm Beach Gardens, first at a small fundraiser for Murphy, a Democrat from Jupiter, before heading to a rally at 9:30 a.m. at a Marriott hotel. Clinton will then fly to Tallahassee for a "souls to the polls" rally at Florida A&M University. Doors open at noon. Later, Clinton will headline a 5 p.m. early-voting rally for Crist at Cyrus Greene Park in Tampa.
Christie is slated to appear at church services with Scott at 9 a.m. in Boca Raton and at 11 a.m. in Miami. The two will then appear at open events at 1 p.m. at Jacaranda Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria in Plantation and at 2:45 p.m. at 201 Plaza Real in Boca Raton. Christie, chairman of the Republican Governors Association, is frequently mentioned as a possible 2016 presidential candidate. He helped Scott campaign last week in St. Lucie and Indian River counties and appeared earlier with Scott in Northwest Florida and South Florida.
Christie and Scott will conclude Sunday by attending two closed-door campaign events in Palm Beach.
BONDI STEPS UP SPENDING IN HOMESTRETCH
Republican Attorney General Pam Bondi's campaign spent about $421,000 --- almost all of it on direct-mail and advertising-related costs --- from Oct. 11 to Oct. 17 as she tries to rally voters before the Nov. 4 election, according to a newly filed finance report. Also, a political committee, known as "Justice for All," that is closely tied to Bondi's re-election bid sent $640,000 to the Republican Party of Florida during the week-long period.
Bondi enjoys a major fundraising edge over Democratic challenger George Sheldon. She raised $97,685 for her campaign account from Oct. 11 to Oct. 17, bringing its overall total to nearly $2.2 million. In all, she had spent about $1.35 million as of the end of last week. Sheldon, meanwhile, raised $38,522 during the reporting period, bringing his overall total to $758,644. He had spent a total of $679,645.
ATWATER TOPS $2.5M IN SPENDING; PUTNAM NEARS $2.3M
Republican state Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater's campaign spent nearly $572,000 from Oct. 11 to Oct. 17, as the overall amount it has spent topped $2.5 million, according to a newly filed finance report. Almost all of the money spent during the week-long period went for what the report described as "media placement." Atwater also raised $128,208 during the period, bringing his overall contribution total to almost $3.1 million, the report showed.
An updated finance report for Atwater's Democratic challenger, William Rankin, had not been posted on the state Division of Elections website early Friday afternoon. But Rankin had raised a total of $17,630 as of Oct. 10.
Meanwhile, Republican Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam reported spending about $203,000 from Oct. 11 to Oct. 17, bringing his campaign's overall spending total to nearly $2.3 million. Putnam raised $153,341 during the reporting period, bringing his contribution total to just under $3 million. Putnam's Democratic challenger, Thad Hamilton, had raised $22,028 through Oct. 10.
