Cole Pepper's Sports Wrap: Jags Score To No Avail, Jameis Winston's Legal Troubles

Nov 18, 2013

First Coast Connect regular sports analyst Cole Pepper joined the show as he does most Mondays with "Cole Cuts" straight from the locker room and a look at all the past weekend's games.

Jaguars 14 - Cardinals 27

The Jaguars lost  to the Cardinals, but there was a silver lining: they scored their first and second touchdowns at home since last December.

The Jaguars have not won consecutive games since 2010 as they are now 1-9 and for the 6th straight season, they will not have a winning record.

There was some questionable officiating including a holding call that was dropped because, "the player ran through it."

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the field on Saturday was a clump of hair. In the second half  Jason Babin made a tackle on Cardinals RB Andre Ellington and wound up with a handful of Ellington's dread locks. The only problem was that Ellington was not attached.

The Jaguars now go on the road to face Houston, who has lost 8 straight. With Tampa Bay's win this week, this could be a game for the inside track on the number one pick in the draft. The Jags will host the Texans 12 days later on a Thursday night game at Everbank.

It was more of the same on the field: Florida State University won, Florida lost, but the most intriguing story surrounds Jameis Winston, Heisman Trophy candidate and FSU quarterback.

It appears that a public records request from the Tampa Times has opened up veritable Pandora's Box in a case that may involve Winston.

Last December, there was a sexual assault complaint made in Tallahassee and Winston's name was connected with the incident.

Its not clear how or if he was involved. He was not charged then and hasn't been as of yet. What everybody is asking is how that case took so long to get to the State Attorney's office in Tallahassee.

If Winston was bothered by the case, it didn't show Saturday against Syracuse. He completed 19 of 21 passes for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Seminoles 59-3 victory over the Orange.
