A group just shy of 100 people will accompany Governor Ron DeSantis and the rest of the Florida cabinet on a trip to Isreal this weekend. That group includes leaders in academia and business, lobbyists and state agency heads.
DeSantis is billing it as a "historic" business development trip that will last nearly an entire week, and include a meeting of the Florida Cabinet.
Six state legislators will be in tow. From the Senate, Republican Wilton Simpson and Democrat Lauren Book will attend. The House is sending republicans Randy Fine, Chris Sprowls and Chip Lamarca, as well as Democratic Representative Joe Geller.
Heads of a number of state agencies like Visit Florida, Space Florida and the Division of Emergency Management also will be along for the trip. There’s been no word from the Governor’s office yet as to what the trip will cost. Barbara Petersen, who heads the First Amendment Foundation, has expressed concern that holding a cabinet meeting on the Israel trip may violate open government law.
