First Baptist Church Jacksonville made headlines last month when the church put about 90% of its downtown properties on the market.

It’s a nearly unprecedented opportunity to pick up a huge chunk of downtown real estate, which adds up to about nine city blocks.

Christian Oldenburg is Managing Director and Market Leader for Colliers International Northeast Florida.

He said Monday on First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross that private developers are eyeing the First Baptist blocks:

“You’ve got one of three options: it gets reused, someone knocks everything down, or a developer creates something brand new. ‘Has anyone expressed interest?’ Yes. We’ve had people interested and looking at it. Obviously we can’t disclose who that is,” said Oldenburg.

Other downtown projects garnering attention: the new Ford on Bay, plans for a mixed-use development at the old Independent Life Tower - and JEA’s plans for a new headquarters.

The full interview with Oldenburg is available on Monday’s First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross.
