Several downtown Jacksonville development projects got a preliminary green light last week.
Bill Delaney of The Jaxson tells WJCT News Director Jessica Palombo the list of proposed new additions includes a commodity that’s in short supply downtown: parking spaces.
The Downtown Development Review Board, part of the public Downtown Investment Authority, has given conceptual approval to the following projects, meaning they’re good as approved as long as they don’t stray from the plans:
Laura Street parking garage/retail space
The garage at the corner of Laura and Forsyth streets is the answer to a long-pondered question: Where will people park if they want to come eat and shop in the soon-to-be-renovated Laura Street Trio of buildings? The garage will feature retail space on one side of the block and parking decks on the other.
Planned for the corner of Laura and Bay streets, the hotel would have 90 rooms, a fitness center, and a rooftop bar and restaurant.
Building owner Eugene Profit said he always had Hotel Indigo in mind to redevelop the space near the Jacksonville Landing. Read more about the hotel here.
Brooklyn Place would to be built next to Brooklyn Station, which is the shopping center anchored by The Fresh Market that’s across the street from The Florida Times-Union.
The conceptual proposal calls for a “national, regional and experienced local operators consistent with the existing Brooklyn Station tenant mix.” Read more about the plans and see a video of the site here.
Dogtopia and Kanine Social
Dog boarding and grooming chain Dogtopia is going full steam ahead on its Southbank location at 1075 Hendricks Ave. It will be the second Jacksonville location for the Arizona-based chain.
And another dog-themed project also took a step forward: Kanine Social, the “dog bar” planned for Brooklyn’s College Street. Read more about Kanine Social here.
