Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner met with North Florida election supervisors, Friday to plan for 2016.
Detzner says Florida now has more tools for voting, from new voting equipment to more flexibility with early voting location placement.
In Duval County, Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan says he’s focused on training poll workers to keep lines short.
“We had what we called a summit with about 40 of the poll workers, giving them a chance to give us feedback,” Hogan said. “How we can better serve them? What are things maybe we were doing that we didn’t know were impediment? And also letting them understand in a better way, some of the rules.”
Hey says he’s also used a focus group to review poll procedures.
Hogan says more people are voting early with each election, and he expects as many as 80 percent of Duval voters will choose that method next year.
Clay County supervisor Chris Chambless is the incoming president of the state Supervisors of Elections Association. He says his group will meet soon with the U.S. Postal Service to talk about efficient mail during the election.
