ElderSource Of Northeast Florida Serves Area Seniors

ElderSource

They’re the premiere local agency helping older residents, disabled adults and their caregivers.ElderSource of Northeast Florida is a lifeline to this area's burgeoning senior population. Half a million people aged 60 plus are now living on the First Coast.

"We get more than 4,000 calls a month," says Andrea Spencer, communications director. "The demand is growing."

Spencer says the nonprofit serves as a "first stop" for all manner of concerns related to aging, everything from meal deliveries to legal assistance to problems with Medicaid and Medicare, and more.  The service is free.

"We want people to start with us to get help," she said. "Often we provide referrals that get them to the right plan or agency. It's very gratifying."

ElderSource will host the "A Night with the Stars" gala on Saturday, June 7 at WJCT Studios, a fundraiser featuring a crooners, cars and cocktails theme.

The event will transport guests to the Rat Pack era with an elegant 1950's twist, big band music from Amelia Island Crescendo, dancing, classic cars, and signature cocktails, all staged in an elegant club atmosphere.

The gala also will feature the presentation of the 2014 Delores Barr Weaver Elder Advocate Award to Mari Terbrueggen, chief executive officer of the Senior Life Foundation. This award is given to an individual who epitomizes what it means to be a friend and advocate to elders, and to champion issues they confront.
