A busy St. Augustine boulevard needs upgrades to make it more pedestrian friendly. That’s the conclusion the Florida Department of Transportation reached after a safety study. The results were presented Wednesday at St. Augustine City Hall.

Surveyors walked Anastasia Boulevard from the Bridge of Lions to just past the Alligator Farm. It’s a highly-traveled section of State Road A1A.

Among the issues listed, inspectors found:

  • many crosswalk markings to be faded or missing.
  • sidewalks and ramps covered in dirt, plants and debris
  •  several broken or uneven sidewalks.

The report also recommends installing bike lanes on the stretch of road the next time it’s resurfaced.
