Here in Tallahassee the Florida Historic Capitol Museum is holding an event to acknowledge the day the first human footprint was left on the moon.

July 16 marks 50 years since Neil Armstrong and other astronauts aboard Apollo 11 left Cape Canaveral with the moon as their destination. It took four days to land the spaceship on the moon and on July 21 Armstrong took the first step.

"The Moon, Stars and Sunshine State" opens at 9:32 a.m. Tuesday July 16. The event will begin with watching the moment Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Collins blasted off from Cape Canaveral. Throughout the day the Museum will be hosting Apollo themed activities and teaching visitors about Florida’s space history.
