Forecast: One More Stormy Day For Tampa Bay Before Some Weekend Relief

After a stormy week, sunshine begins to emerge in Tampa early Friday morning.

After a stormy week, sunshine begins to emerge in Tampa early Friday morning.

The Tampa Bay region will have to endure one more potentially stormy afternoon before normal summertime conditions return in time for the weekend.

Early risers are waking up to a bit more sunshine than in the last few days, with blue skies peeking through some light clouds.

The stalled cold front to the north, which has brought those treacherous conditions during the week, is starting to break down, according to the National Weather Service. But the tropical moisture that has been intact will remain so for at least one more day, bringing the chance for another round of afternoon thunderstorms.

As has been the pattern of late, forecasters say some of those storms could be heavy, with strong gusts and the potential for localized flooding into the evening.

More storms will develop overnight into the start of the weekend, and some may sneak near the coast by Saturday morning. But shifting winds from the east are forecast to keep those storms offshore later in the day and into the weekend, meaning inland afternoon storms are likely to form that will then move west toward the coast.

Highs on Friday will be in the mid 80s, with a return of highs in the low 90s starting Saturday.
