Former Jacksonville Jaguars QB Mark Brunell Hired As Detroit Lions QB Coach

Former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell, who quarterbacked the team in four playoff appearances, is returning to the NFL.The Detroit Lions announced Friday morning Brunell has been hired as the team’s new quarterbacks coach.

Brunell has stayed active in Jacksonville since his retirement from the Jaguars, working as a sports analyst for WJCT News partner News4Jax, while serving as the head coach at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville and as the host of The Mark Brunell Show on CW17.

After leaving the Jaguars in 2003, he formed Mark Brunell Enterprises.  He later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2010, according to WJCT News partner The Florida Times-Union.

Brunell was induced into the Pride of the Jaguars- which is the team's hall of fame equivalent - in 2013.

Brunell played 19 seasons (1993-2011) with Green Bay, Jacksonville, Washington, New Orleans and the New York Jets, according to the Lions.

He appeared in 193 career games (151 starts) and totaled 32,072 passing yards and 184 passing touchdowns along with 2,421 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.
