Homeless Shelters Opened With Temperatures Forecast Below 40 Degrees

City Rescue Mission

With nighttime temperatures expected to dip below 40 degrees, Jacksonville’s homeless shelters are making plans to provide cold weather protection for people who need a warm place to stay.

The Salvation Army on West Adams, Trinity Rescue Mission on Union Street and the Sulzbacher Center on East Adams – all in downtown Jacksonville - said they will open their shelters Monday and Tuesday nights.

The City Rescue Mission’s New Life Inn on State Street will open for the cold weather at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. It will also provide a hot meal and access to showers and clean clothes.

People will be allowed to stay there as long as temperatures remain below 40.

Mission staff said no one will be turned away.
