The Biden administration continues to prioritize COVID relief right now, but another big bill the White House has sent to Congress deals with immigration reform.

The US Citizenship Act of 2021 would permit undocumented people to apply for temporary legal status and then for green cards five years later. Dreamers, TPS holders, and immigrant farm workers may be eligible for green cards immediately.

As that legislation is advanced in Congress, a virtual immigration summit is coming up Thursday in Florida with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Nikki Fried set to speak.

IMPAC Fund Executive Director Kathy Carvajal and J.P. Morgan Private Bank Executive Director John Martinez joined us with more information.

Suicide Prevention

A new suicide prevention collaborative called Here Tomorrow is active at the Beaches right now.  They want to get the word out that there is free mental health support for people who are depressed or thinking of ending their own life. Hannah Hackworth, the director of the program, spoke to us with more.

Nursing Opportunity

Jacksonville University and Baptist Health are teaming up to rapidly address the increasing need for qualified nurses in Northeast Florida. They are launching a new program to offer students an accelerated path to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in just twelve months, with the opportunity to earn a work-promise agreement from Baptist Health upon graduation and licensure. We had Jacksonville University Professor Amber Santos from the Kegwin School of Nursing and Baptist Health Chief Learning Officer Liz Bruno join us with details.
