Tonight on the steps of the Historic Capitol, a group of Florida State University students and the Islamic Center of Tallahassee are holding a solidarity event and vigil for the 50 victims of the Christchurch Massacre.

A man videotaped himself carrying out an attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Salah Bakhashwin of the Islamic Center of Tallahassee says since the attack he’s seen more people coming together.

“It shows what happened in New Zealand an act of hate, an act of terror and it was meant to divide the communities and it backfired it actually brought people together,” said Bakhashwin.

The vigil tonight is from 6 to 7:30 and there will be multiple speakers.
