Jacksonville Libraries To Host City Council Debates Monday

WJCT News

Jacksonville residents will have a chance to hear directly from the candidates running to represent them on the City Council.

On Monday, April 20, the Jacksonville Public Library Board of Library Trustees and the League of Women Voters of Jacksonville First Coast are hosting debates and candidate meet-and-greets at four library locations.

The debates will be moderated by Melissa Ross and Karen Feagins of WJCT, Frank Denton, Florida Times-Union editor, and Ken Amaro of First Coast News. WJCT is a sponsor of the debates.

All City Council candidates who advanced to the runoff election were invited to participate. Members of the community submitted questions last month, and topics include the human rights ordinance, blight, library funding, economic development, the economy, crime, pension reform and public transportation.

Attendees will have the chance to meet the candidates at informal receptions sponsored by Winn-Dixie at 6:30 p.m. at each debate location.

Voters can find out which precinct they live in and see their sample ballot on the Duval Supervisor of Elections website. All county voters can vote in the at-large races.
