Jacksonville Man Indicted In Attempted Murder Of Federal Judge

A 24-year old felon has been indicted on 25 federal charges including the attempted murder of U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan.

Aaron M Richardson is also charged with firearm offenses, giving false statements to the FBI and impersonating a captain of the U.S. Navy.

In an indictment unsealed today, Richardson is charged with firing several rounds from a high powered rifle he stole from a city sporting goods store into Corrigan's home.

He faces life in prison if convicted on all charges.

Acting United States Attorney Lee Bentley said, "The attempted murder of a sitting United States District Judge represents an attack not only on an individual but on the entire judicial system and the rule of law."

According to the indictment and court records Judge Corrigan had convicted and sentenced Richardson in 2008 for attempting to make an incendiary device. Richardson spent three years in prison and  was currently serving a term of supervised release.

Richardson faced being sent back to prison by Corrigan after being convicted of robbery and burglary.
