Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry’s Office has released additional details for his plan to fly the five military branch flags in front of City Hall.

Six 40-foot flag polls will be installed along with hardscaping around the poles at a cost that is expected to fall between $50,000 and $80,000, according to Curry spokeswoman Tia Ford.

The money for the project will come from the Public Works budget with the installation expected to be completed by September 30.

“Mayor Curry believes this investment is a worthy tribute to demonstrate, at the front steps of City Hall, that this community is proud of its military and veteran tradition,” said Ford in an emailed response to a WJCT News inquiry.

Mayor Curry announced the plan earlier this month saying the idea came to him as he was enjoying fireworks in downtown Jacksonville with his family.

“We should add the five military branch flags in an array around the National Colors in front of City Hall,” said Curry in a statement on July 11.

The six flags will honor each branch of the military as well as prisoners of war and those missing in action:

  • Air Force
  • Army
  • Coast Guard
  • Navy
  • Marine Corps
  • POW MIA
