Jacksonville National Cemetery Is Open For Memorial Day

BOB SELF / THE FLORIDA TIMES-UNION
Jacksonville National Cemetery is pictured in this Times-Union file photo.

While families and friends are welcome to visit Jacksonville’s National Cemetery on Memorial Day, they will not see thousands of small American flags decorating the gravesites as in years past.

Nor will they witness the public wreath-laying ceremony that has long been a Memorial Day tradition.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the National Cemetery Administration decided against holding any public remembrances at its 142 cemeteries this year.

Instead, the wreath-laying will be conducted privately by cemetery staff and photos will be shared on the administration's social media pages.
