Jacksonville Woman’s Car Was Shot on I-295 With Pellet Gun In April

News4Jax

Police continue to search for whomever shot a pellet gun at three cars and caused a rollover crash on I-295 in Jacksonville last weekend.

A Westside woman says her car was shot on the same road in April.

Kathy Brown said she’s worried other drivers might become highway shooting victims.

“I could have easily gotten into a wreck like the people that overturned their car and somebody’s going to get seriously hurt,” she said.

Brown was driving on I-295 around midnight Friday. She was going northbound between Old St. Augustine Road and San Jose Boulevard when she heard a loud bang. Pieces of her back window fell into the car.

“There was a definite hole where something had hit it,” Brown said. “So I called the police.”

A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report said the damage looked to be from a pellet or BB gun and labeled it criminal mischief. Brown says the car she believes is responsible is an older, two-door, dark-colored Nissan or Honda with tinted windows.

“It was solid black. It wasn’t a shiny black. It was like a primer black,” she said.

Brown said she exited on San Jose, but the car continued on the Buckman Bridge, which she said has Florida Department of Transportation Traffic Cameras.

She said when she heard about the other highway shootings, she tried calling the FHP to report the car, but she couldn’t reach investigators. WJCT News confirmed Friday FHP spokesman Dylan Bryan had contacted Brown after speaking with WJCT about the matter.

Bryan said although the Buckman has cameras, they don’t record, they only stream for monitoring. He said there’s no way to go back and look at the footage.
