Jacksonville Zoo Sees Baby Boom With Birth Of Giraffe Calf

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens
This male giraffe calf was born July 2.

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is celebrating yet another birth this year - this one a giraffe.

The zoo says 13-year-old Luna gave birth to a male calf on Friday, July 2.

The little guy - little being a relative term - weighs 165-pounds, stands 6-feet tall, and appears to be in good health.

Visitors should get to see Luna and her calf this Saturday, July 10.

The zoo has experienced quite a baby boom in recent months - welcoming a western lowland gorilla, a critically endangered cotton-top tamarin, a critically endangered pancake tortoise and numerous penguins, spoonbills, herons, and starlings, among others.
