Thursday is the last day of Black History Month. For Jacksonville, it’s a history that includes brushes with some of the nation’s most prominent black historical figures.

- Educator, civil rights leader, and adviser to U.S. presidents Mary McLeod Bethune
- Singer Marian Anderson
- Abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass
- Poet Paul Laurence Dunbar
- National Negro Business League founder Booker T. Washington
