JEA board members will decide at next Tuesday's meeting whether the community-owned utility's CEO will get a $65,000 bonus.
CEO Paul McElroy’s raise is being discussed at the same time JEA is under EEOC investigation for allegations of racial discrimination by a handful of employees.
The utility also faced backlash by city officials last month for failing to meet a self-imposed deadline for restoring all customers’ power after Hurricane Matthew.
And the St. Johns Riverkeeper is looking into whether JEA’s actions led to the spill of more than 10 million gallons of partially treated sewageduring the same storm.
McElroy also came under fire last month for leaving Jacksonville the day before Hurricane Matthew hit and not returning until the following Monday. During that time, more than 445,000 JEA customers lost power.
For McElroy to receive the bonus, he must meet strategic goals, according to documents obtained by our partner, News4Jax.
If he meets those goals, McElroy can get a bonus of up to 15 percent of his base pay, or about $65,000. During Tuesday's meeting, the board is expected to evaluate McElroy before voting.
