The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday more human remains have been found in a separate site in the Oceanway area.

Homicide Lieutenant Craig Waldrup said it all began Tuesday when construction crews near Interstate-295 and Main Street discovered bones in a mound of dirt.

“At that point they shut the site down.  We began to, bucket- by-bucket of dirt, sift through what they had pushed up there. So we go through it one, 5-gallon bucket at a time,” said Waldrup.

Authorities searched another site with the same fill dirt and found more human remains.  Examiners are working to determine the cause of death.

With several unsolved missing persons cases going back decades in Jacksonville, families are waiting to see whether the remains are identified as their loved ones.
