Law Enforcement Officials Highlight 'Take 25' Child Safety Campaign

As little as 25-minutes is all you might need to keep your child from becoming the victim of a sexual predator.
That’s the message of the Take 25 Campaign, created in 2007 by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and highlighted Friday by a group of federal, state and local law enforcement officials.

Lee Bentley is the U.S. Attorney for Florida’s Middle District.  He says many child pornography, exploitation and human trafficking cases end up in his office because adults have failed to talk to their kids about the dangers around them.

"We prosecuted a case here in the middle district of Florida that involved a child predator accessing a minor victim through an Xbox game," Bentley said. "So those of you who think you know what your children are doing at all times, are probably mistaken.”

Help is out there, said Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford.

“We’ve distributed Computer Cop which is a software program that allows parents to go onto the computer and see where their children have been," he said.

Rutherford says clicking on the offender watch button on the JSO’s website will bring up information on all of the sexual predators and offenders within a half mile of your address.

The Take 25 Campaign is part of National Missing Children’s Day, which is observed each May 25th.
