Lawmakers in Fort Lauderdale Vote To Get Raises, Atlas Airline Investigation & The Art Of Flamenco

The current Fort Lauderdale commission unanimously voted this week to double the salaries of city lawmakers.  The increase will officially be implemented after the next election in 2020. Sundial spoke with Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner of District 2 Steven Glassman about the raise, changing zones for sex offenders and electric scooters.


Atlas Air is the largest cargo flight carrier operating out of Miami International Airport (MIA). This past February, three pilots who worked for the airline died in a crash that was carrying Amazon packages out of MIA. The plane crashed 40 miles outside of Houston. Veteran pilots have expressed their concerns over current training methods for new pilots, calling them inadequate. Sundial spoke with The Miami Herald’s tourism reporter Taylor Dolven about a recent investigation on Atlas Air's business practices.

Ilisa Rosal’s love for flamenco began in Granada, Spain, where she lived for five years. Rosal eventually returned to her native Miami to found the "Ballet Flamenco La Rosa." Rosal has been teaching future generation of dancers in Miami for over 40 years. Her performance “Fuerza Flamenca” is scheduled for June 22 at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach. Sundial producer Alejandra Martinez spoke with Rosal about Flamenco's history in South Florida, the future of Flamenco and why she decided to open a company.
