LIVE BLOG: Local And State Elections

The following are live updates from Election Day 2014.

10:27 UPDATE

The Associated Press has declared Republican Gov. Rick Scott the winner of Florida's gubernatorial race over former Gov. Charlie Crist.

10:16 UPDATE

Scott Shine is the winner in the Duval County School Board District 2 runoff race with 57.6 percent of the vote.  Sam Hall has conceded the race.

"I think we both put forth a good effort in the race and I wish him the best and I'm here to be of support," Hall said. "I wasn't in it just to win the race but I've been supportive of children for the past 25 years so I'd like to say that I will be available if need be."

Shine will represent a portion of the county which includes the beaches and some of the Southside.

"I'm really glad that it's over and now the work starts and we can get busy on the things that we've set out to do for the school system and the children and I'm really excited about that," he said.

9:36 UPDATE

The Associated Press reports the medical marijuana initiative will be defeated in Florida; support is below the 60 percent needed to pass.

8:56 UPDATE

It's not looking good for Amendment 2. Support for medical marijuana is falling below the 60% threshold needed to pass. It has 57% support with 2/3 of precincts reporting.

8:43 UPDATE

Florida voters have rejected a proposed constitutional amendment that would have changed which governor chooses certain future Supreme Court justices and appellate judges.

Amendment 3 would have allowed an outgoing governor rather than the incoming one to choose new Supreme Court justices after three retire due to age limits in 2019. With over half the expected vote counted, the amendment had only 48 percent approval, well short of the 60 percent needed to pass.

The amendment was added to the ballot by the Republican-led Legislature, which billed it as a needed clarification. Democrats and many legal commentators called it an attempted court-packing power grab.

The amendment's failure means the governor taking office in January 2019 will appoint the three new Supreme Court justices.

8:33 UPDATE

MIAMI (AP) — A judge has denied former Gov. Charlie Crist's request to extend voting by two hours in Broward County.

Evelyn Perez-Verdoa, elections spokeswoman for the county, confirmed the judge's ruling but gave no other details. Crist's campaign filed the motion Tuesday night, shortly before the polls closed at 7 p.m. in most of the state. Crist cited voter confusion and malfunctions.

According to the motion, malfunctions with some addresses caused voters to be bounced between precincts, and ultimately the system didn't register them. They weren't able to cast regular ballots, the motion says.

In August, legislators adopted a new map that alters seven of the state's existing 27 districts.

Crist's campaign says those changes confused voters. He says they received conflicting information about where to vote, which discouraged many.

8:16 UPDATE

State Senator John Thrasher tonight released the following statement regarding his re-election to Florida Senate District 6.

“Should the Board of Governors confirm me as the President of the Florida State University, I am committed to helping our District and Republican Party find a candidate who is uniquely qualified to serve the people of Northeast Florida.

Thrasher said he would step down from his Senate seat as soon as the FSU Board of Governors confirms him, which should occur later this week.
