Leon County officials are working to prevent a repeat of the violence that took place at the U.S. Capitol last week from occurring in the Florida state capital.

Tallahassee's City Hall building will remain closed next Tuesday and Wednesday as President-elect Joe Biden is sworn into office.

Mayor John Dailey announced on Thursday via Twitter that the decision comes in anticipation of possible violence at state capitals across the country. Dailey also noted the city has not received any direct threats of violence.

The Leon County Courthouse will also close next Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a statement from county. Officials say their decision came after consulting with local law enforcement.

Both government buildings are closed this weekend and on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
