Manatee County commissioners are tasked again with deciding what to do with a Confederate monument that used to stand in front of the county courthouse.

The monument has not had a home in two years. After a heated protest in downtown Bradenton, the county moved the granite marker August 24, 2017 at 3:30 a.m.
"In the way it was moved before in the middle of the night and then broken, we lost a lot of trust-- this board did - even though I didn't know it was gonna be moved the way it was. I don't know about the others," Commissioner Vanessa Baugh said during the board meeting Tuesday.
Since then, three potential locations have rejected it. Commissioners had hoped voters might choose between multiple locations on the 2020 ballot, but only "yes" or "no" questions are allowed.

Tuesday, commissioners decided to explore two county-owned locations: Rye Preserve in Parrish and a piece of property in Ellenton on Church Street.
They plan to ask for public comment.
Eventually, commissioners can either vote on the location themselves, or put the one place they choose on the November 2020 ballot.
