Media Roundtable: Yarborough's Objection To MOCA Photo Creates Uproar

Media Roundtable Week in Review Logo

Jacksonville City Council President Clay Yarborough, Duval County GOP Secretary Kim Crenier, and same-sex marriage are making headlines this week.

A rally drew big crowds to the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville this week.

Demonstrators were out in support of a controversial nude photograph of a pregnant woman that is part of of the museum's Project Atrium exhibit by artist Angela Strassheim.

City Council President Clay Yarborough started a firestorm in the arts community last week when he emailed Mayor Alvin Brown's Chief of Staff, Chris Hand, demanding that the funding that MOCA receives indirectly from the city through the Cultural Council be pulled due to the photograph. In his email, Yarborough claimed the subject of the photograph was "laying in a questionable position" and called it an "inappropriate, pornographic display."

Joining us for our regular Friday roundtable to discuss this and other stories from the week was our panel of local journalists:

Other topics discussed include the controversy over tweets made by Duval County Republican Party official Kim Crenier about protestors in Ferguson, MO, and a federal appeals court refusing to extend a stay on same-sex marriages in Florida.
