Miami has been home to the Ultra Music Festival for more than 20 years, attracting thousands of electronic dance music fans to the city each year. But last week, Ultra decided not to renew its contract with the city, terminating a two year contract agreement for the festival to be hosted on Virginia Key Beach. The movie POMS -- about a group of elderly women starting a cheerleading squad -- is out now in theatres. A group of seniors in Aventura has been cheering for years. The “Viva Girls" live at the retirement community Vi at Aventura and range in both age and experience. They cheer monthly at birthday celebrations and visit members of the assisted living center. We spoke to members of the squad Rosalie Lewen and Nancy Siegel about what it is like to be a “Viva Girl.”
This Saturday, thousands of women are meeting across 20 cities nationwide for an event called RunAsYouAre. The event, hosted by the non-profit organization VoteRunLead, is focused on training women who are interested in becoming involved with politics or who want to run for local and statewide office. We spoke to the CEO of RunVoteLead Erin Vilardi and the Miami Organizer for RunAsYouAre Glenda Rosado about the role of women in politics and what to expect this weekend in Miami.
