Florida’s hospitality industry is beginning to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic after 1.5 million employees were furloughed or laid off starting in March of last year.
Restaurants and hotels are hoping potential employees will check out a new jobs website run by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association at GreatFloridaJob.com.
Local association director Nicole Chapman said Thursday on First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross there are jobs available — from entry level to managerial positions — with good pay.
“Definitely when it’s a job seekers market, rates go up no matter which industry you’re in, so I think across the jobs out there that are available, we are seeing higher wages now more than ever. Some businesses out there are hiring and doing incentives... You start with them, after 30,60, 90 days you get somewhat of a bonus,” she said.
Florida has more than 460,000 jobs available.
The full interview with Chapman is available on First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross, which encores at 8 p.m. on WJCT News 89.9.
