Nearly three years after same-sex marriages began in Florida, two Democratic lawmakers have filed proposals to repeal an outdated state law that banned gay marriage.
Rep. David Richardson, D-Miami Beach, filed a bill (HB 6027) that would take the law off the books.
Sen. Gary Farmer, D-Fort Lauderdale, filed a similar bill (SB 130) in August.
The measures are filed for the 2018 legislative session, which starts in January.
A federal judge ruled in 2014 that Florida's ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional, and same-sex couples began getting married in the state in January 2015. Lawmakers, however, have never formally taken the gay-marriage ban out of state law.
