The next phase phase of construction at the Orange Park Medical Center will include two new inpatient units that will add 48 private patient rooms and a new 20-bed intensive care unit (ICU).The $34 million expansion will result in 80 new jobs and follows a $126 million expansion that added 101,435 square feet of spacelast summer.
“As we continue to care for an even greater complexity of patient needs here at Orange Park Medical Center, our ICU capacities and capabilities must adapt in parallel,” said Dr. Justin Gisel, a critical care and pulmonary disease physician at Orange Park Medical Center, in an email to WJCT News.
Hospital officials said Orange Park Medical Center last year cared for more than 1,700 patients requiring intensive care services for advanced cardiovascular care, complex neurovascular care, traumatic injuries, and other critical conditions.
The latest expansion, which is expected to be completed in the fall of 2023, will bring the latest in advanced patient room design and clinical technology, according to the hospital.
The new rooms will have 50” TVs with Apple TV subscriptions, which also display their medical information and care updates.
The rooms will also include CenTrak technology, displaying a pop-up on the TV announcing their care team members' names upon entering the room. High-speed internet will also be available for patients and visitors.
“In total, this project brings 68 new inpatient beds to the facility,” said Lisa Valentine, chief executive officer at Orange Park Medical Center, in the same email.
The expansion will also include a new 300-space parking lot. Orange Park Medical Center on Kingsley Avenue is part of the for-profict HCA Healthcare chain.
