Ground broke Thursday on a new $62 million patient tower at the Orange Park Medical Center.

The more than 101,000-square-foot tower will be able to accommodate 48 medical and surgical patient beds along with two floors of unfinished space that will allow for future growth.

“Like many businesses in our area we’re feeling the effects of the growth happening in Clay County,” said Orange Park Medical Center CEO Chad Patrick in an email to WJCT News.

The expansion at 2001 Kingsley Ave. in Orange Park is expected to create more than 100 new jobs to help care for the increased number of patients.

The hospital is also wrapping up a 12,000-square-foot expansion that is scheduled to open in July. It includes 14 recovery rooms and two electrophysiology labs that will serve patients suffering from irregular heart rhythm conditions such as atrial fibrillation.

The hospital also recently expanded its neonatal intensive care unit and began the expansion of a kitchen and dining area. The combined projects total $126 million.
