Low- and moderate-income people could see their dream of homeownership come true at an event this weekend in Jacksonville.

The first day of the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (or “NACA”) workshop attracted more than a 1,000 people. The program helps buyers get a mortgage with no down payment or closing costs, at a below-market interest rate.

Bruce Marks is NACA’s CEO.  He said about a third of the applicants get pre-approved during a four step process that begins with a crash course on home buying.

“Second step is you upload the documents that you bring in. Third step is you meet with a NACA, counselor, housing counselor. And fourth step is you meet with a backup underwriter to be pre-approved, or to determine your next steps.”

NACA’s Achieve the Dream event is at the Lexington Hotel & Conference Center at 1515 Prudential Drive from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Sunday.

Registration and information are available at naca.com. Walk-ins are welcome.
