Police Raid Jacksonville Smoker's Video Stores

News4Jax

JACKSONVILLE — Police raided three Smoker's Video stores Wednesday as part of a long-term investigation into synthetic drugs.

A News4Jax crew outside the store on Beach Boulevard saw one person in handcuffs being put into a patrol car.

Other officers were seen bringing boxes out of the businesses on Beach Boulevard, Normandy Boulevard and Emerson Street.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda released few details about the raid, saying only that it was conducted by JSO and several local, state and federal agencies, who served arrest and search warrants.

"Synthetic drugs are a very dangerous drug that's manufactured synthetically — it's not real," Bujeda said.

She said no one was injured in the serving of the search warrants Wednesday.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will be in Jacksonville for a 2 p.m. news conference Thursday to provide an update on the raid and the ongoing investigation, Bujeda said.

Jim Piggott is the reporter to count on when it comes to city government and how it will affect the community.
