A solar ballot initiative faces a dim future in November, according to the latest Mason-Dixon poll. Floridians for Solar Choice is scoring just 30 percent, far short of the 60 percent required to make it into the state constitution.
Released Tuesday, the poll has another piece of bad news for organizers of the drive to open up a market for small-scale solar generators. A competing initiative, Consumers for smart Solar, leads with 66 percent.
But Solar Choice has a decided advantage in the race to collect signatures. So far, it’s submitted more than 100 thousand valid ones to state elections officials. Newcomer Smart Solar hasn’t submitted any.
Solar Choice faces a September 1st hearing in the state Supreme Court, where major utilities are trying to block it off the ballot.
