Protest Against Reopening Duval Schools; COVID-19 Numbers; Book Club; Sandy Yawn

Sky Lebron/WJCT News
Duval County Public School parents and teachers protested reopening plans Tuesday morning.

As coronavirus cases continue to climb, many are concerned about the state’s plan to reopen schools,  including the Duval Schools Pandemic Solutions Team, an advocacy group. They hosted a protest in advance of this morning's Duval School Board meeting. WJCT Reporter Sky Lebron was there and joined us with details.

Florida’s COVID-19 Record Numbers

The concerns with COVID go beyond the classroom due to the single-day records Florida has been breaking in new cases. Jacksonville physician Dr. Jennifer Cowart joined us to discuss the latest numbers and news.

The Francos

The Francos, a family of four in Ponte Vedra Beach, have all been presumed to have the coronavirus, after the son tested positive for it. We spoke with family member Noelle Franco to learn more about their COVID-19 story.

First Coast Connect Book Club

It is summertime and you can still enjoy the therapeutic waves of the sea through a book, despite the pandemic. Our book club leader Stacey Goldring shared the books she says will take you on an adventure of a lifetime.

Sandy Yawn

Captain Sandy Yawn from Bravo’s reality show Below Deck Mediterranean will be setting sail for Jacksonville. She bought a downtown firehouse and plans to convert it into a restaurant. She joined us to discuss the big plans she has in store for the building.
