The deadline for residents recovering from Hurricane Michael to apply for money from a state program that helps cover the cost of housing repairs, reconstruction or replacement is fast approaching.

Low-to-moderate income homeowners and rental owners have until June 16 to begin an application for state and federal housing assistance through the Rebuild Florida Housing Repair and Replacement Program. After residents have started an application, they have until June 30 to submit it.

The program is available to residents in twelve Panhandle disaster counties. Those include: Holmes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, Gulf, Gadsden, Liberty, Franklin, Leon, Wakulla and Taylor Counties.

The State Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has hosted in-person registration events in disaster communities over the last several months.

The Rebuild Florida program serving communities recovering from Hurricane Michael launched on Feb. 1. In the past, DEO has also offered the program to other communities recovering from disasters.

Information about applying is available on the Rebuild Florida website.
