Now that Tallahassee State Senator Bill Montford has said he won’t run for mayor, will incumbent City Commissioner Curtis Richardson jump into the mayor’s race? Richardson expects to answer that question soon.

Montford’s decision this week to stay in the State Senate had fueled speculation that would clear the way for Richardson to quickly announce a mayoral bid. But Richardson says there are still lots of family discussions ahead before he’ll make that decision. He estimated that process might take a couple of weeks. Richardson has been on the Tallahassee City Commission since 2014. Before that, he served four terms as District Eight State Representative and won his first election in 1990 as a member of the Leon County School Board. So far, there are two filed candidates for Tallahassee Mayor, Joe West and Erik David.
