Florida State University’s softball program is two wins away from its second national championship. The team faces No. 1 seed Oklahoma in a series that begins tonight.
The Seminoles’ bats sizzled on Monday night against the University of Alabama in the Women’s College World Series. Florida State scored early and often on the way to an 8-5 win in Oklahoma City. The win helped the Seminoles advance to the Championship Series against No. 1 seed Oklahoma.
Freshman outfielder Kaley Mudge was 5 for 5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI for Florida State.
Mudge was not the only person who participated in the hit parade against Alabama pitcher Montana Fouts. Sydney Sherrill doubled and Elizabeth Mason hit her ninth home run of the season in the first inning to give the Seminoles a 3-0 lead.
Florida State has tied the NCAA record with its eighth straight win in an elimination game. As was the gas in the program’s march to the 2018 national championship, the Seminoles had to traverse the loser’s bracket in the double elimination tournament to advance to the best-of-three Championship Series.
Standing in the Seminoles’ way is an Oklahoma squad that is 54-3. The Sooners lead the nation in batting average, on-base percentage, home runs and scoring.
